Say’s Billy “Actually I’ll use any gear going to achieve the sound the song wishes to have, my job is to create the environment then get out the way. For me the sound comes first, performance second, then a good tune helps. If a cassette player catches the moment, I’ll us that but if I need to overdub 16 tracks on a digital system to achieve the effect of effortlessness I will, because the art of recording is the same as the art of painting: to use smoke and mirrors to make the inaudible audible and the invisible world more real”.¶¶NB.
